We’re a different kind of dental team
Above all, we believe in providing the most calming dental experience for our clients.
Dr Verena Isabel Tunn
Principal Dentist, GDC 104556
In 2009, Verena founded Oldmachar Dental Care, Aberdeen’s only holistic dental practice.
At a very early age, Verena knew already what she wanted to become: “Zahnaerztin” which is German for dentist. Wearing braces herself at a young age raised her interest in dentistry. Verena made her childhood dreams come true, and graduated in 2000 with the approbation for dentistry at Albert Ludwigs University Freiburg; one of the most respected Universities in Germany and Europe.
After graduating, Verena went on to gain more experience at several practices, and at the same time became more interested in holistic dentistry. In 2005 she achieved the Diploma in Chinese ear and body acupuncture at the European Academy for Ear acupuncture, with Dr Bahr. Two years later Verena gained the certificate in dental Hypnosis in Glasgow at the British Society of Medical and Dental Hypnosis.
To fully achieve her passions for holistic dentistry, Verena knew she needed to path the way with her own unique practice, where she could fully develop and use her skills. Her practice has since become a training centre, where she supports other clinicians to improve their techniques through holistic dentistry, and she empowers all of her staff to be their best selves through continuous support and training.
Verena is a Member of the British Acupuncture Society, an Expert Member of the British Dental Association, a member of the International Academy of Medicine and Toxicology and the Society of Mercury Free Dentistry, and her practice is recognised as a specialist for patients with dental phobia by dentalphobia.co.uk.
For Verena it is also second nature to give back and create an impact in developing countries. Hence she is partner of the B1G1 charity and profits are regularly returned to NGOs to support worldwide self-sufficient projects. The practice also supports local charities and businesses, in keeping with the practice’s strong ethical policy.
In Verena’s practice it is clearly conveyed that a healthy mouth is the foundation for a long happy and healthy life. Besides dentistry Verena likes arts, dance, music, photography, Yoga, mindfulness, health, fitness and nature. You can find some of her paintings and pictures in her practice. She also loves her two dogs, Betsy and Daisy, who have joined us at the practice as Therapy Dogs.
“For me success is based on a long term honest happy relationship with my customers – there is nothing better than their cordial smile.” (Verena doesn’t like the term patients and prefers customers. She is happy to explain this more in person.)

Calm and gentle are surely the first words you will hear to describe Alex. He is a loving family man, and is this is evident in his approach to dentistry, and the gentle care he gives his patients. Alex is particularly brilliant with children, and helps them to relax and have fun, with a few magic tricks up his sleeve.

He has since become more involved at the practice, and has recently become an associate dentist, carrying out a breadth of treatment at the practice. He works closely with Verena to accompany patients on their personal journey to good dental health.
