We understand that visiting the dentist can cause some of our patients to feel nervous and anxious. This anxiety can prevent patients from visiting the dentist altogether. There can be many reasons for this, but we are here to listen to your individual concerns. We will help to make your experience as comfortable as possible so that you can take back control of your dental health.
Using a gentle and compassionate approach, and the latest dental techniques, we can offer dentistry that is pain free. Treatment is carried out in a relaxing and non-judgemental environment.
Modern Technology and New Approaches
Perhaps you haven’t been to the dentist for a few years because of your anxieties? Well the good news is that dentistry has come a long way, and has probably changed a lot since your last visit. New techniques and equipment mean that treatment can be pain free. There are also a variety of options available to you to help you relax. Our team are well trained in relaxation techniques, and we are open to suggestions if there is something you think might help you. Perhaps you have a favourite musician you’d like to listen to during treatment? Perhaps you’d like to try some hypnotherapy? We are here to listen to your concerns, and work with you to identify helpful techniques and develop a comfortable treatment plan to help you achieve a healthy mouth and healthy teeth.

What will happen at my First Appointment?
To get to know us first of all, you can book an appointment with our smile advisor, Jessica. This is a relaxed consultation to help you ease yourself into the practice. It will give you the chance to discuss your concerns and find out how we can help you, outside of the surgery setting. This can be arranged at the practice where you will get to meet the team and see our facilities, or at a local coffee shop for your comfort.
When you’re ready to meet the dentist, we will arrange an appointment at your convenience. This will be an opportunity for you to meet the team if you haven’t already done so, and start building a relationship with your dentist. Ideally, your dentist would like to give you an examination so they can advise you of your next steps, and devise your personal treatment plan. No treatment will be carried out at this stage. Any required procedures will be explained to you, so you understand your options and what’s involved. You will then have the opportunity to book your treatment, as advised by the dentist. Treatment will be carried out a pace that suits you.
We treat the human being, not just the patient
Interviewer: So how would you handle a situation where the patient arrives at the practice and for whatever reason they’re so afraid that they don’t want to go ahead with it?
Verena: It’s no problem. If there’s a very anxious person, this person won’t even sit in the dental chair on their first examination we will just sit here away from the dental area and we have a nice conversation about their concerns and how we can help them.
Some people first need hypnosis therapy; we can arrange that. Some people first need some sessions of acupuncture, or maybe some people just need something totally different, we are open to any approach. No one is forced into doing anything here at our practice.
For us it’s important that we agree on a treatment together. We work hand-in-hand together, not against each other, and that’s success for us.
Interviewer: I really like that because shows that the patient isn’t being blamed in any way for the phobia that they have, and that there’s a path that you guide them through.
Verena: Yes, and we walk together on that path shoulder to shoulder, not me the big dentist and you the little patient, no! I can’t be successful without you the patient, and I can’t be successful without my team, we are all together on one level.
What I say mostly is forget about the past. The past is past. It’s gone. Ok, there might be a reason you’re phobic, that’s correct, but it’s gone. I always say that it’s perfect that you’re here and that you-have entered the practice, that you are here having this appointment, this is success already, and this is the now, this is where we start.
Interviewer: It sounds very encouraging.
Verena: Yea, and that’s what our success as a dental practice is based on. It’s very easy to forget your fear and move on. Everyone has got an amazing power in herself or himself and the person just hasn’t seen it yet, and all we do is just lift the sheet and uncover it together.

“Early on in my career I noticed that dentistry as a whole was very serious and very technically focused. There was no real focus on the patient’s feelings, emotions, anxieties, phobia, concerns or anything.
I felt that the human being was being left aside, and that’s the side that is actually most interesting for me; learning to assist patients together with their feelings and seeing how we can change it into something positive.”
